Regions
Larrule General Information
Larrule is a large country that encompasses many different regions and cultures. The area was originally a bunch of smaller countries, but eventually they were conquered and formed the country of Larrule, which is why some areas are so different from the others.
Not much is taught about the history of Larrule, the textbooks start at the point when all the nations that were once separate merged into Larrule. It is unknown where a military force large enough to conquer all the nations came from, and how they conquered country after country so quickly without losing a single battle. Originally, in the early days of Larrule, Botu Port and Aetherborn were not a part of the country. Initially Azmar was very rebellious of the conquering, and were only appeased after Larrule allowed them to continue to practice magic for performative means without a license. After a while, Larrule then decided to conquer Botu Port, a city suffering from infectious monsters. Not long after they conquered Botu Port, they discovered the flying ship that would become Aetherborn.
Larrule is ruled by a King named Regis Melchior. The king has absolute power over the country, however he rarely uses that power, and instead defers to his council who are made up of the six different Majors. King Regis Melchior has been in power since he was in his 20’s and is currently in his late 50’s, so he has been in power for a long time. He frequently makes public appearances in the capital city of Strosengard and is generally well liked by the citizens of Larrule.
Larrule is policed by the military, who also control the major cities. Each region is governed by a Major, and each major city in the region is governed by a Captain. Sergeants are appointed by captains, and often are in charge of groups of villages. It is very hard to become a captain or above, and usually takes many years, with most never reaching the title of captain. The ranking order goes as follows: King, Major, General, Captain, Sergeant, Guard Captain, Guard. General is more of an honorary role granted to Captains after they deserve a promotion, but no Major spots are available. Generals are the lowest rank of the military that are allowed to live in the capital city Strosengard.
The King or Queen of Larrule is chosen when the current King or Queen dies. The Majors choose who gets to be the new King or Queen, which is usually one of them. It is typical for it to take a long time to pick a new ruler, because the Major’s all tend to vote for themselves. Sometimes it has even led to very small-scale civil wars. The choosing of the current king, Regis Melchior, was decided fairly quickly with little opposition. Before he was King, he was the Major of the Allermore Slopes region.
Magic in Larrule is controlled by the military. To legally be allowed to practice magic, you must be a member of the military and go through formal military magical training at a magical academy called Oakhaven Academy. The education the military provides on how to harness magic is very extensive, which is a main driving point towards citizens joining the military. When the training is done, and their service also is done in the military, those that were trained in magic receive a license that allows them to keep practicing magic as a civilian. While magic is forbidden to those without a license, it is not exactly super criminalized. As long as you aren’t casting magic without a license in the middle of city street with guards around, no penalties would occur. The worst you would get for unauthorized harmless magic is a fine, although those that are busted teaching magic to people that are not licensed would suffer more severe penalties like jail time.
There are those that are born with magic powers, and do not pray to a higher being or study magic or make a pact. Those who fall under this category are trained to control their innate magical abilities just enough to not be a danger to society, but are given no further training unless they enlist when they are old enough. They are trained at Oakhaven Academy.
Larrule is very isolated from the countries that surround it. Larrule is at war with all of its adjacent countries, although there hasn’t been any active conflict anywhere for a very long time besides a few skirmishes every couple of years on the eastern and northern border. The large ring of mountains that make up the border of Larrule do almost all of the work to keep this armistice up. Because there hasn’t been any conflict in such a long time, people see a majority of the military as inexperienced.
Not much is known about the countries that surround Larrule, nobody travels in or out of the country because of the wars. Not much information makes it over the border either, but what is known about the other countries is that to the north lies the country Bruela. Bruela exists even further north than Winterkeep, and they are a relatively poor nation with all their efforts being focused on their military. They are not very magically advanced. To the East lies the opposite, it is a country named Jaspela. They are very magically advanced, and are said to be ruled by a powerful queen. To the west lies a mysterious country named Alparia. Not very much is known about Alparia except for its name.
Larrule has a train system that runs across the country that was developed by the geniuses of Aetherborn, primarily the inventor Zephyr Devante. It has made travel much easier between the major cities, although it can be rather expensive. Some of the train tracks can be dangerous, such as the ones that run through the Cardwick Mountain Ranges. It occasionally becomes the target of bandit attacks.
Bucrest Plains
The Bucrest Plains region is the central area of Larrule. It consists of open plains and dense forests. Two major cities reside in the Bucrest Plains, Strosengard and Darkwell.
Darkwell
Darkwell is the biggest city in Larrule, both by population and by size. It is often overcast in Darkwell, and light rain is not uncommon, along with a light fog. The city is very dense and the buildings are tightly packed together with sprawling alleyways branching off from major open roads. A heavily forested snowy mountain lies to the north of the city where castles were constructed for nobles to live in. Lake Darkwell lies to the east of the city, along with Darkwell harbor, and the Larrule River comes from the lake and intersects the city. There also exists a large central command station where military officials and city officials work.
The closer to the center of the city you go, the richer it becomes. The nicest places are in the center of the city and by the lake, where the worst parts of town exist near the edges. Even the worst parts of Darkwell are often nicer than what most commoners who live in the countryside have ever seen.
The city is ruled by a captain, who is often transferred from the other cities upon promotion. The captain takes on the role as governor, and runs the city with almost full power, unless a higher up such as a general or the king himself steps in.
Many captains who are put in charge of Darkwell are only using it to get promoted to the rank of General so they may live in the capital city of Strosengard. Because of this, most captains who take charge of Darkwell are only looking to make a quick name for themselves rather than improve the necessary small or difficult problems. The citizens view the captains of Darkwell as unfavorable, lazy, and incompetent, and while the small time criminals view them the same way, it is a positive thing because they are allowed to do whatever they want because they aren’t worth enough to capture or deter.
There exists a large criminal scene in Darkwell, because the captains never go after the smaller criminals because it wouldn’t get them enough fame to be promoted to general. Very few large crime lords exist in Darkwell, but many smaller gangs operate throughout the city, using the almost maze-like alleyways to their advantage.
Because the city is so large, there exists a large following for all the gods in this city as opposed to overwhelming support for one god like most other cities.
Recently, Captain Raymon was promoted to General Raymon after arresting the drug lord Gavino Derico, otherwise known as “The Boss”. He was transferred to Strosengard after his promotion, and a new younger captain has just taken his place as the leader of Darkwell. The city of Darkwell is waiting to see whether or not the new captain, Quincy Holt, is just another guy looking to be promoted to Strosengard as easily as possible, or if he will actually put Darkwell on the right path.
Due to the ineptitude of General Raymon, a terrifyingly dangerous and gruesome serial killer has been stalking the streets of Darkwell after the sun goes down, leaving unspeakable murder scenes in his wake. There is an unofficial curfew recognized by most people in the city due to this murderer known as “The Flayer”.
Strosengard
Strosengard is the capital city, and it is not very big compared to other cities. Only those born of noble blood or that have worked their way up high enough in the military to the rank of General are permitted to live in this city. Servants and shop owners are also allowed to live in Strosengard, however it is extremely difficult to get in that position without knowing people who are higher up.
Strosengard is a beautiful city that surrounds the King's castle, and the entire city is a circular shape. It is often very bright and sunny in Strosengard. The streets are marble, and fancy statues of government officials are all around the city. The entire city is very wealthy, and no bad areas or slums exist. It is a very popular tourist attraction, and almost has a theme park feel to it.
Nobles that live in Strosengard hardly ever leave, and are often looked down upon by the rest of the country. They never have to endure any hardships because they were born into a royal family, and reside in sprawling manors passed down in their families for generations.
King Regis Melchior can often be seen strolling the streets of Strosengard, engaging with the community and it’s tourists. He is said to be a very kind and charismatic man and maybe even a little bit eccentric and aloof, but make no mistake, assassins have tried to take advantage of his carefree nature only to be cut down by King Melchior’s own sword.
There is a large following of Sarenrae in Strosengard, which is further pushed by King Melchior. He is a big worshiper of the Dawnflower, and is a big believer of her doctrines.
Oakhaven Forest
Oakhaven Forest is a magical forest that lies where the barrier between the ethereal plane and the material plane is thin. Larrule has taken advantage of this by constructing a large academy to train mages, both young and old. If a young child shows interest in magic, or is born with magical powers, they can learn magic at Oakhaven Academy with the requirement that they serve in the military after their training is complete. Training for younger students takes around 4 years before they graduate to the older wing, where they then complete another 4 years of magical training before joining the military. Oakhaven Academy has been run by the elven principal Lumenor Starspark for the past 700 years.
The forest surrounding Oakhaven Academy can be quite dangerous, so the forest is off limits to anybody not studying at Oakhaven Academy, and even students must remain on school grounds at all times.
Strosengard Woods
The Strosengard woods is home to the forest druid clan, known as The Wardens of the Woods. They live in non-permanent camps and protect nature while also maintaining the balance of civilization and nature. They don’t just reside in the Strosengard woods, a small number of them reside in all of the forests across the continent, to keep watch and protect. The Wardens of the Woods have taken personal offense to a train track being built through their forest.
Pilcastle Woods
These woods are very dense and overgrown. It is often foggy in these woods, and it rains often. The thick canopy mutes sunlight during the day, and makes lanterns a necessity if you travel through the Pilcastle Woods at night.
The Lunestris Sanitorium resides in the Pilcastle woods, where they rehabilitate their patients far from the reaches of society. It is rumored that they also conduct very dangerous and highly magical experiments in the deep recesses of the Lunestris Sanitorium.
Cardwick Mountains
The Cardwick Mountains is a northern region of Larrule, which is very rugged and hard to traverse. The lack of available farmland has led to food shortages in the region, and the land being hard to traverse makes it hard for the military to police. There are a lot of bandits and slavers that patrol the Cardwick Mountains preying on unfortunate people that are making their way through the region, or villagers from small towns. There's a saying in the Cardwick Mountains: trust no one, not even yourself. The lands of the Cardwick Mountains region is said to be brutally haunted by the souls of those who met a grisly fate. People from this region often do not travel much outside of their village.
Kronham
Kronham is a large mining city located at the base of Mount Kronham. The city is not nearly as nice as any other city in the country, and is rife with crime. Often the guards of Kronham are just as guilty as the criminals.
The city is usually coated with dust from the mines. Mount Kronham is covered in mineshafts, and almost every single citizen of Kronham works as a miner. It is a very dangerous profession, and the pay does not match the risk. It is not uncommon to see orphans roaming the streets of Kronham.
Many large gangs are present in Kronham, usually paying off guards to let them conduct their business of kidnapping or robbing citizens. The gangs in the Cardwick Mountain region are particularly ruthless, often kidnapping people and either using them for slave labor or harvesting their organs for the black market.
Kronham has a large following for Cyric, often out of necessity to steal, lie, and cheat just to survive in the brutal region of the Cardwick Mountains.
Wychwood Forest
The Wychwood forest is where most of the gangs in Cardwick have their bases of operations. These gangs are said to lie hidden in the forest, and ambush anybody that dares to use the road through Wychwood. Many mines started by gangs exist in the mountains covered by the Wychwood forest where they use captured people to mine precious materials for them. They also harvest organs to sell on the black market in the Wychwood Forest. This forest is said to be the most haunted place in all of Larrule. Most people choose to take the longer path to the east to get to the Wilmar Snowfields to avoid going anywhere near the Wychwood Forest.
Almost a year ago, the military sent an invasion force into the woods to try and clean it up, but after a 2 week long battle, almost every guard that went into the forest didn’t return. Those that did return came back with horrifying scars, both physical and mental. Since the defeat at Wychwood forest, there have not been any public plans for the military to return to the forest.
Wilmar Snowfield
The Wilmar Snowfields are located to the far north of Larrule, and it experiences harsh snow year round and sub zero temperatures. The climate makes it very difficult to live in or travel, and because of this, there’s only one major settlement up north. There is a strong sense of community between the residents of Wilmar.
Winterkeep
Winterkeep is a large northern city that is covered in a blanket of snow year round. Cold bitter winds howl, and the only thing warm enough to keep you comfortable is booze. The city is built primarily out of stone, because they have so many torches and fire to keep warm that wood would be too big of a fire hazard.
Much like Kronham, most people here are miners. Mount Zerrith is a magical mountain, filled with magic crystals named Larrulite. Because the mountain is magical, it’s caverns are often filled with ancient monsters, so the miners have adventurers that accompany them to protect them.
The Larrulite crystals are used by mages so that they can ignore material components, and sometimes if the crystal is strong enough, it can be used to bypass using spell slots. Larrulite crystals come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Typically the larger the Larrulite crystal, the more powerful it is.
A few Larrulite crystal mages reside in Winterkeep, and they refine the crystals to be used by mages as an arcane focus. They can make the crystals into wands, staffs, holy symbols, shields, and all manner of arcane focuses. It’s also possible to use one in it’s raw crystal form too. It is usually a big deal for a mage to travel to Winterkeep to get their Larrulite crystal, as every crystal is unique. Oftentimes the crystal calls to the mage.
The different colors of the crystals are associated with different properties of magic, however whether this actually has any bearing on the strength of spells is debatable.
People in Winterkeep often worship Gorum, because they need the strength to prosper in such a harsh environment, and the battle skills to defeat the monsters in the caves.
Northern Keep
The Northern Keep is one of the only places that sees combat. It sees combat from its neighboring nation far less than the eastern keep because of the weather. Because it’s so cold, it’s still just as bad to be assigned to the Northern Keep even though it sees far less combat than the Eastern Keep. The Northern Keep is a large wall constructed between two mountains that acts as a large gate.
Zerrith’s Mountain Range
A large prison resides in the Zerrith Mountain Range, and it only harbors the most dangerous criminals. It is also often used as a bank because of how secure it is. It is said that a deal was struck with a white dragon who lives in Valewood, the dragon helps protect the prison and it gets the entire Valewood forest to itself.
Crestwood Forest
This forest is home to the druidic clan named the Silverscales. Their home base resides in an abandoned dragon's lair in the base of a mountain. They are the protectors of the sky, and often use contraptions that allow them to fly so they can be wardens of the sky. A majority of the members of the Silverscales are opposed to the city of Aetherborn because they claim that it unbalances the scales between civilization and nature in the sky. They claim that the sky was never meant to harbor civilization.
Valewood Forest
Officially this forest is off limits to the public for classified reasons, but it is rumored that a white dragon has made the Valewood forest it’s private hunting grounds after striking a deal with the rulers of Larrule.
Allermore Slopes
The Allermore Slopes is a very peaceful region located to the east of the country. It’s at a high altitude and has grassy hills that stretch on for as long as the eyes can see. Many farmers utilize the rich soil here. Allermore lacks any villages and instead has houses spaced out very far from each other due to the plentiful land available. Living in Allermore feels very isolated, you may have a few neighbors that live a couple miles away, but the peaceful scenery and environment makes up for it. While very peaceful, Allermore is known for intense storms suddenly appearing and lasting for a short while with no warning before disappearing just as quickly as they came. Friendly trolls wander the area, helping out travelers, while mean trolls can hinder travelers and residents.
Estermore
Estermore is a city located in a valley between the Allermore Mountains. It is a city primarily utilized for the farmers of the region to sell their crops. Once a month or so, the citizens come from their farms and sell their crops, and at the end of a season the peaceful city becomes very busy. Being assigned as a Guard in Estermore is seen as a vacation. Many Captains get their start being a Captain for Estermore because of how easy it is to run.
At the end of every season, a large festival is held in the city where people from all over the region come together to celebrate. People from Estermore are known to be very loyal to their families, and they have a reputation for being drunks.
The people of Estermore and the entire Allermore region often worship Persano because they are farmers and pray for good weather.
Eastern Keep
The Eastern Keep is perhaps the only place in Allermore that isn’t peaceful. Every once in a while, there will be a skirmish at the border from the neighboring country. The only hard part of being the Major of Allermore is the fact that they must be ready at a moment's notice to defend the border. The troops at the Eastern Keep are some of the only military with actual combat experience. Being assigned to the Eastern Keep can be used as a punishment, given that it is the most active region with conflict. The Eastern Keep is a large castle with many trenches dug to protect the eastern border.
Hidden Valley
The Hidden Valley is the home of the Emerald Enclave, a group of druids who protect the lands and balance nature and civilization. They do not just exist in the Hidden Valley, they travel all around the continent protecting the lands
Tysira’s Mountain
Tysira’s Mountain is the home of the ancient gold dragon named Tysira. She is a protector of the Allermore Slopes, but does not take kindly to people climbing her mountain. Once a year, she allows the druid clans to meet on top of her mountain. Occasionally in the night sky, villagers have claimed to see her flying majestically through the air.
Azmanian Desert
The Azmanian Desert is a region located to the far west of Larrule. It is a desert filled with sandy slopes between two mountain ranges. In the center of the desert lies an oasis, where a large city named Azmar resides.
Recently the extensive tunnel that the train takes from Strosengard to Azmar through the mountains has had a massive cave in. It is rumoured that a dragon or some other large beast has caused this.
Azmar
Azmar is a large towering city that is a cultural hub. The city has a lot of verticality to it because of the limited fertile land that surrounds the oasis. Azmar is home to bardic colleges, famous art museums, prestigious theaters, and musical concert halls. Most of the people of Azmar are artistically talented in some art form. This city is a large tourist attraction, but beware of common pickpockets that try to prey on unsuspecting visitors. Once they nab your bag, they can easily lose the tourists who are unfamiliar with the city in it’s sprawling layout.
Azmar is the only place in all of Larrule where you are allowed to be taught and practice magic without a license, as long as it is of the performative variety. If you were to leave Azmar, you could not use the magic you learned anywhere else until you got a license.
The people of Azmar worship Shelyn, for obvious reasons. There are a lot of artists, poets, and musicians, so she is the obvious choice.
Azwanian Range
The Azwanian Range is a mountain range full of large ancient ruins from early native settlers. They are said to be very dangerous, so they are off limits to the public. Very few who visit return. It is also rumoured that a black dragon nests up in the Azwanian Range, basking in all the unclaimed treasure that still lies in those mountains.
Lamont Marshes
The Lamont Marshes are the southern region of Larrule. It is mostly large open marshland. A green dragon uses the marshes as their hunting ground.
Trinston
Trinston is a large city located on the coast of the Tamrose Gulf. Tristan is known for its casinos. It is also a very beautiful city, with a unique design. The city is almost built in layers, with a large castle at the very top. The richest members of society that aren’t nobles or military reside here in trinston.
The captain of Trinston, Gary Knox, was a navy officer and is now the leader of Trisnton. He is rumoured to run a very large scale smuggling operation out of the underside of Trinston, and anyone that dares to try and expose him is silenced, along with any family or friends.
The people of Trinston worship Abadar because many merchants take up shop at the port and make good money doing so, although many fail to remember that Abadar despises those that get money in underhanded ways…
Pleasant Valley
Deep within the swamps of Lamont lies Pleasant Valley. This valley is home to a druidic circle known as the Seaborn. They protect the sea and try to keep the balance between civilization and the sea.
Tamrose Gulf
The Tamrose Gulf is a tropical gulf that mainly is used as a passageway from the rest of Larrule to Botu Port. Botu Port has no official roads to it, so you must either take a boat or trek through the jungle, and almost everybody chooses to take a boat because it is much faster and safer.
Adwanii Jungle
The Adwanii Jungle region is a small region located to the southwest of the country. It mostly consists of uninhabited dangerous jungle, with a tropical beach located at the south. The Adwanii jungle acts as a natural defense to the western border.
Many lost ancient ruins exist in the Adwanii Jungle, and it is rumored that they were more advanced magically than the cities that exist currently.
Botu Port
Botu Port is a tropical resort like city. It has very nice hotels and very fancy tropical bars. Surfing and other beach activities are very common. They even host dinosaur racing in the streets. Canals travel through the city, allowing travel through the city to small sea vessels.
The further you go from the coast, the worse the city gets. The slums lie on the far northern edge of the town, and rich investors keep buying up land and forcing the poor people further north. Soon they will be forced to live in the jungle due to living costs.
Many banana and cocoa farms exist not too deep into the forest, and it’s questionable how ethical they are to their workers. Some have no choice but to basically sell themselves to the farms, because they are offered very minimal food and housing for their work, but dirt cheap pay.
Botu Port is built on the ruins of Old Botu Port. Old Botu Port was overrun by infectious monsters so they blew the city into the ground and started anew on top of it. People who are arrested are often just thrown into the old city, a good mile or so beneath the current city. Some people even risk their lives and willingly sneak down to loot anything that was left behind in the old city.
The people of Botu Port worship Persano because he is the god of the sea and storms, both very important aspects for living on a beach, but they also worship Desna because she is the goddess of stars, and there is a lot of astrology at Botu Port.
Adwanni Keep
The Adwanii Keep was built a long time ago, but abandoned when it proved difficult to keep the fort supplied because the supply lines ran through dense jungle. It also proved useless, as no countries from the west would dare to move an army through the thick jungle to attack the nation of Larrule.
Aetherborn
Aetherborn is not a region, but it is a large city built on top of a massive part magical, part mechanical flying ship. This flying ship was found fully functional but abandoned deep within the Adwanii Jungle. It took years, but then they built the city of Aetherborn on top of it. Because the ship was already built and functional, it is currently unknown exactly how the ship works, so flying ships do not exist besides Aetherborn.
The city of Aetherborn is the leading place for inventors. Many inventions are designed in Aetherborn because of the brilliant minds that are drawn to the city. Large yearly invention expos are held at Aetherborn. It is also home to the famous bar known as “The Wicked Lich”.
The underside of Aetherborn is where the poorer people live, where they work to make constant repairs to keep the city afloat. The city needs almost constant 24/7 maintenance or else it will lose altitude. The underside of Aetherborn is large with many massive pipes and machines exposed to view. The underside has a weird stench and is always just a bit too hot. There’s also no natural light in the underside.
The city of Aetherborn does not land, you have to either take a teleportation circle or ride some kind of winged creature. Aetherborn drifts around the country, usually 2-3 miles up in the air. It avoids flying above any major settlements in case of a failure of the engine.
The city of Aetherborn does not have an official military leader appointed as its leader, and is instead run by an eccentric tinkerer named Zephyr Devante. His whole family is renowned for their inventions and oddly diverse family.
The people of Aetherborn often worship Irori because he is the god of knowledge and the city is full of inventors.
Jaspela General Information
Jaspela is an elven country to the east of Larrule who worships a higher power known as the Everburning Star. They were once allies of Yorthas, until it fell to King Astor, devastating their armies in the process. King Morrigan, the founder of Yorthas, was once the Heir of Crimson, but left the country due to negative preconceptions about him being a human.
The heirs of the divine flowers are the rulers of Jaspela, with the Heir of Gold being the most powerful leader. When the heirs die, they are reincarnated somewhere within the country.
Heirs don't start to exhibit any traits of being an heir until around 2-3 years of age, where their skin starts to change color to tint towards their respective color, and their hair and eyes usually begin to change as well. They don’t start to grow larger in size or power until around 16 years of age, where they also begin to have their memories from their past incarnations trickle back to them.
While extremely rare, when heirs are born as humans they don’t exhibit the traits as strong as elves do. Their powers often aren’t as great as elven born heirs, their lives are often shorter, and their appearance is harder to distinguish as an heir. It often takes longer for a human heir to be found due to this. King Morrigan is the only human heir to exist thus far.
Humans are seen as lesser than elves, as the Order of the Golden Petals has deciphered from the Everburning Star that the elves are the chosen people. Humans don’t have any explicit laws against them, but have a harder time progressing in society due to preconceived notions about them by elves and their far shorter life span. Humans fare better in The Blackstone Peaks than anywhere else in the country, for they value work ethic more than anything else.
Blackstone Peaks
The blackstone peaks are a rocky, fractured, mountainous region with dirt and stone black like obsidian, and grass a dark crimson color. The people of this region are hardy, with most of its residents being miners, blacksmiths, or warriors as the land is not fertile enough to farm much of anything. The land in the Blackstone Peaks is fractured, almost like tectonic plates. Some of the land is fractured by a canyon only a few feet wide, and some fractured by hundreds of feet. It is not known what lies at the bottom of these fractures, but roots of Rhosyn can be seen snaking under the ground through these fractures. The miners of the Blackstone Peaks lower themselves into the fractures to mine the roots, refining it into the powerful Rhosynite. Weapons and armor made from Rhosynite are strictly for use by members of the House Crimson army.
Many small mining towns are located around the Blackstone Peaks, usually near the fissures in the ground.
The people of the Blackstone Peaks are the most distrustful of Larrulians, as they still protect the border between the two countries, and did the most battle against King Astor in the olden days.
The Crimson Peak
The Crimson Peak is a fortress that acts as the first line of defense against invaders into all of Jaspela. While it may not be elegant or fancy, it is very practical. It is where most of the House Crimson army is trained and where they reside. Iago Griffith is the commander of the Crimson Peak.
Iago is an old elven man, having served during the fall of Yorthas 400 years ago. He was originally the protectorate of King Morrigan while he was still the Heir of Crimson, but decided not to follow him to the badlands as he was still a firm follower of the Everburning Star. Many people wanted him to be in charge of House Crimson in King Morrigan’s absence, but Seren, King Morrigan’s illegitimate daughter was placed in charge instead.
Blackstone City
The Blackstone City is typically where the people of the Blackstone Peaks reside if they aren’t a renowned blacksmith, Rhosyn forger, or of nobility.
Mines of Mwyn
Long ago there existed other races besides elves in Jaspela, although their numbers were few. A dwarven man named Mwyn united the other races and brought them with him deep into the caves north of Jaspela never to be seen again. Many humans stayed, as they were the closest to elves and suffered the least under them.
Ruby Palace
The Ruby Palace is a city nested at the base of Mount Rhosyn. The city lacks elegance, but could easily survive a siege. It has wide, open streets to allow armies to march through, with heavy duty stone buildings to withstand the toughest of projectiles. A large, thick, iron wall also surrounds the city.
It is here that Rhosynite is refined and forged into armaments for House Crimson. Only the best smiths are allowed to forge the special ore, for wasting it is seen as highly disrespectful. While civilians cannot get their hands on the mythical Rhosynite, the blacksmiths here still forge very high quality weapons and armor.
The current placeholder for the Heir of Crimson resides here, leading the people of the Blackstone Peaks. The granddaughter of the illegitimate daughter of King Morrigan, Seren, has been given a new title since there is no Heir of Crimson. Her title is Seren the Battle Queen. For reasons unknown, ever since King Morrigan's death, a new heir of crimson has not been born, leaving them without a proper ruler. This paired with Seren only being a half elf has led to many people to think her rulership of the Blackstone Peaks to be a mistake. With very few options of who else to be put in charge, there isn’t much anyone can really do. It is speculated that the Larrulians are trapping King Morrigan's soul, making him unable to reincarnate.
Mount Rhosyn
Mount Rhosyn is a giant volcano-like mountain. At the very top, sprouting from the mouth of the volcano, are the petals of a rose. Mount Rhosyn almost looks like an erupting volcano, but with rose petals instead of lava pouring out from the mouth. The mountain is a holy site, many religious people make the trek up the mountain to meditate at the peak. Many people see it as tradition to make their blades first cut on the petal of Rhosyn, for any laceration to Rhosyn heals almost instantly.
Golden Plains
The golden plains, a sweeping landscape with golden grass. The warm ocean to the east keeps the temperature moderate, averaging temperatures to around the high 60’s in the summer, with temperatures only barely dropping below freezing in the winter.
Sleepy villages lie scattered throughout the golden plains, consisting mostly of farmers. The largest settlement in the golden plains, and the entire country, is the Amber City.
Igryfell
Igryfell is a city with half of it being built upon the Silver Mountains, and half being built over a lake in the Golden Plains. At the base of the mountain resides a very peaceful city quarter, with a large number of fishermen. Those that are born on the lower part of the city are typically seen as less intelligent, and are more blue collar workers. At the top of the mountain lies the Great Jaspelan Library, and a large population of historical scholars reside there.
Heddwich
Heddwich is a city where farmers from the golden plains region come to sell their crops and produce, and the city also acts as a teleportation hub for the country. All teleporters lead to Heddwich, and Heddwich has teleporters that lead to other cities.
Amber City
Nested between two mountains and sitting on the coast, the elegant city resides. The amber city is the capital of the country, and is the very definition of luxury. The people of the city wear elegant robes spun of golden silk. The city streets and buildings are paved with gold and amber, sunflowers are planted plentifully around the streets. The city streets and roofs are often covered with sheets of golden petals from the Isle of Gold. At night, the city is illuminated in golden light by the great golden sunflower Auryn, and it sheds petals on to the city like a light rainfall. The petals that fall from Auryn faintly glow gold.
Merchants, Religious Scholars, and those of the House of Gold bloodline reside here. The main population consists of High Elves. The Everlasting King also resides in the Amber Castle, the centerpiece of the city. It is here that the heir of Gold rules over Jaspela.
Glyndwr Gold was recently reincarnated. He was discovered in a small farming town 3 years after he was born. Currently he is 5 years old. Like most heirs of Gold, he is a high elf with golden tinged skin, silky golden glowing hair, and eyes that glow bright gold. Until he reaches the proper ruling age and finishes his schooling, his oldest daughter, Rhian, is ruling for him. Along with Rhian, Glyndwr’s wife Isolde and his son Rhys reside at the Amber City helping to rule.
Isle of Gold
The Isle of Gold is a small island not far off the coast of Jaspela. The island is home to the great gold sunflower, Auryn, and the temple of the Order of the Golden Petals. Only high priests and priestesses of the Order of the Golden Petals are allowed on the island, along with the heir of gold.
Auryn rotates with the sun, facing east towards the sea at sunrise, and west towards the city at sunset. At night, Auryn droops to point its face at the city, and it’s petals begin to glow. It sheds large golden petals that are carried by the wind and deposited at the city. Auryn never seems to run out of petals.
The Order of the Golden Petals is the main religious order of the country. As it is a sunflower, and the people of Jaspela worship the sun, they view it as the most powerful giant flower. The Order of the Golden Petals follow close teachings to Sarenrae, and it is often speculated that Sarenrae is based off of the Everburning Star. Auryn is often used as a beacon for communication with the Everburning Star, and as a conduit for power for the Arch Priestess of the Order of the Golden Petals. The Order is scattered throughout the country, not just located on the Isle of Gold.
Valley of Silver
The Valley of Silver isn’t really a valley, it's more of a giant sinkhole. The only city in the Valley of Silver is the Sunken City, a city that was built in the sinkhole. The people of the Silver Valley are servants of the House of Silver in some way, whether they are spies, tacticians, historians, or ordinary people that keep the city running. People in the Valley of Silver put less importance in the rulership of the House of Gold, acting more independently and following the guide of Eirian.
Sunken City
Built in a large sinkhole, the city would be impossible to defend from attackers, but the House of Silver prides themselves on the fact that they’d know before any attackers even made it up the mountain. Eirian is a large tree in the center of the cavern that the city is built around. The tree has silver wood, with glowing white flowers hanging from its branches. Glowing flowers plucked from Eirian light the city up in the areas that don’t receive much sunlight.
The House of Silver rules over this region, and they deal with tactics, knowledge, and intrigue. They work closely with House Crimson, providing them with tactics for battle, and they work closely with the House of Amethyst, providing important historical lore for the study of magic. They do not work super closely with the House of Gold, seeing the Order of the Golden Petals (the ones who interpret the will of the Everburning Star) as interpreting the will to benefit themselves and not necessarily the absolute truth.
The Heir of Silver is Madoc, the master of intrigue. People that have spoken to her have described leaving the encounter feeling like you just revealed a deep secret, but you have no idea what it was. If something is happening in the country, she probably already knows about it.
Enchanted Woodlands
The Enchanted Woodlands are a dense forest that has been heavily warped and twisted by the raw magic power exuded by Grym. The trees and grass have taken on colors of blue and purple, and it is said that sometimes flames take random colors while burning. The laws of reality don’t always apply in the Enchanted Woodlands, sometimes you can walk in a straight line and find yourself back where you started. The forest is full of magical creatures, some deadly and some mischievous. People have described the forest as the feywild but if it collided with the plane of chaos.
City of Spires
The City of Spires is named after the spiral towers that are scattered throughout the city. The city is mostly built in the trees with beautiful elven architecture, but mage towers exist all throughout the city, spiraling above the treetops. The citizens of the city are all mages in some capacity.
The Heir of Amethyst is Merlin, and works to magically develop the country, while also working to understand it. He is one of the few people to have seen Grym. Merlin is very old, having been alive for near 4,000 years. He isn’t seen very often as he is almost always working on some project.
Grym
Grym is the bulbous flower that the House of Amethyst derives their powers from. Grym is different than the rest because it is a normal sized flower instead of being super sized like the others. Grym is located somewhere in the deep depths of the Enchanted Woodlands, but it is impossible to find unless Grym wants you to find them.
