House Haddock
House Haddock was a noble family in charge of Bleakwater until the Bleakwater Rebellion. Currently it is led by Henry Haddock, who still resides in the ruins of Bluecastle in Bleakwater. Henry Haddock is a private and secluded man, unlike most of the previous descendants of House Haddock. He has been described as a brooding and abrasive man by those that know him. Unlike his father Harry, Henry didn’t do much in the way of philanthropy, people say he is the complete opposite of his father.
House Haddock was founded when Hunter Haddock distinguished himself as an expert explorer. Hunter explored much of the coast of the Western Continent in his life, earning his family a lot of respect. Hunter was the one that found the dragon eggs that allowed the humans to conquer the Eastern Continent and win the Great Eastern War. He was granted the title of nobility, but he rejected land to rule over, as he was an explorer and wanted his descendants to do the same, feeling as if they had land to rule over they’d be tied down to it. Throughout time, as there was less and less land to explore and chart, House Haddock became known for their charitable deeds and philanthropy work. They funded orphanages, schools, and hospitals across Valtoria.
Hunter Haddock went on an expedition after being granted nobility to the jungles of the Western Continent, supposedly finding a lot of treasure. His ship sank on the return to Valtoria, and he was never heard from again. Many have tried to find his ship or the location he got his treasure from, but to no success. After Hunter's death at sea, House Vallos gifted the Haddocks an adamantine sword named Wayfinder that has been passed down through the family.
A little over 200 years ago, Hayden Haddock asked the king at the time if his house could attempt to settle Bleakwater, seeing it as a way to return to his house’s roots of exploration, and the king agreed. After a long and hard expedition, Jackdaw was founded.
Harry Haddock is the father of the current head of House Haddock, Henry. Harry stepped down to let his son Henry lead the house, as Harry was getting old and wanted to focus on other projects. Harry is widely respected around the continent as a good and honorable man by nobles and peasants, he funded many hospitals and paid for the medical supplies of existing ones, and was also a doctor himself, treating many residents of Bleakwater. Harry died when Dul Kullell leveled Bluecastle. Before Harry’s death, he was working on a project to open a massive academy for poorer citizens of Valtoria in Rosindale, with the help of House Cantell. Since his death, all progress has been halted.
Currently, the good name of House Haddock has been tarnished, as Henry Haddock is rumored to have turned to dark magics after his crippling defeat in the Bleakwater Rebellion. He has not been heard from by anybody outside of Bleakwater since his defeat.
Henry Haddock is a man of few words, preferring to keep to himself and rarely ventures outside of Bluecastle. Despite being from the beloved House Haddock, Henry is not particularly well liked by his subjects, who view him as cold and distant. Henry’s troubled past has contributed to his demeanor, as he lost his wife, Hailey, to a fever shortly after they were married, and has never recovered from the grief. Despite this, he is a master strategist, as he was able to win a rebellion for years while severely under equipped and outmanned.
Evelina Blackwood is Henry Haddock's new wife, a native of Bleakwater. She is an attractive woman, with long black hair and pale, almost translucent skin. She often wears elegant dark clothing, deep purples and burgundy reds. Evilina is said to be a devilishly smart woman, with a strong, confident demeanor that draws people in. She is known to be a skilled mage, but there are whispers that she practices dark magic, as she never attended Masterpool academy. Evelina’s marriage to Henry Haddock has raised many eyebrows, as she is not of any nobility. Some suspect that she only married him for his wealth and power, manipulating his weakness for her own gain. Despite this, Evelina has done nothing to suggest this to the public, and Henry Haddock seems none the wiser of any plots.
