Stormwind

Stormwind is the last surviving elven city in the known world. After the Great Eastern War, all the elves that remained fled to Stormwind, an island with a great oak tree that towers over the whole island. The island is just off the eastern coast of Valtoria, and the waters that surround it storm constantly to prohibit anybody trying to reach it. The sea is said to part when an elf attempts to cross to the city from the Bay of Elves, but no elf has crossed in a long time.

Thalerian Oakheart is the current king of the elves, still carrying bitter hatred for the humans and the conquering of their lands. He refuses contact with the humans, staying in his city. The elves see him as a wise and just leader, fiercely protective of his people from humans, seeing his isolationism as just. His family, the Oakhearts, have been the rulers of Stormwind since it was created. They allowed the other elves from the mainland to take refuge at Stormwind during the Great Eastern War, and eventually became the last elven city as all the rest fell to the humans.

The elves of Stormwind are expert artisans, crafting some of the most intricate and expensive jewelry in the world. They mine rare gems only found on the island and use it for their craftsmanship. The elves are also known for their beautiful clothing. None of their goods are allowed to be traded with humans, decreed by the elven king himself, so to find their goods on the mainland is extremely rare and valuable.

The elves of Stormwind are deeply magical, attuned to powerful elemental magic. They have mages that can control the weather and the seas that surround Stormwind, hosting probably the most powerful mages left in the continent amongst them, but they refuse to give any of their knowledge of magic to the humans.

The elves of Stormwind are still devoted to the dead gods, but have also turned to worshiping the fey. They celebrate the equinoxes with festivals, seeing them as important times when the connection between the planes of existence are thin. During the spring and summer solstice, they leave out milk and other treats for faeries because the rift is thin and faeries can pass through. During the autumn and winter equinox, they have mischief festivals, to strengthen the connection between the material plane and the feywild because the barrier between realms is strong.

The elves who do not live in Stormwind, of which there are few, are often distrusted by humans. Humans see most elves as egotistic, believing they are better than humans. The elves also still bear some resentment for the humans taking land that was once theirs. While the tensions aren’t very high anymore, it is still unlikely that a human would befriend an elf and an elf would befriend a human.
