Magic
Magic in the world has been mostly lost to time, with very few people proficient in magic. Ever since the Vallosian High Academy and all the mages were killed in the War of the Fallen Angel, nobody has been able to even really begin to recover all that was lost. The Masterpool Academy was created to replace the Vallosian High Academy as the center for magical research, but Masterpool Academy is mostly devoted to research about magic and how it works, not necessarily how to use magic, since all the magic scholars died and nobody was left to teach them. Most people looking to learn magic come to the Masterpool Academy, and leave disappointed, magic takes a great deal of discipline and study to cast, it could take months of study and training to cast even a basic spell, and some people still just don't have the aptitude for spell casting. Those that are capable of casting magic usually never make it beyond even simple spells. People have theorized that something in the world was broken when the Three Faced God destroyed the Godscar, permanently weakening the strength of magic in the world. This theory is met with some skepticism, since the elves retain their magical abelites, but refuse to share their knowledge with the humans.
Since the world lost their knowledge of magic, the creation of magic items is almost non existent, with the only ones left are the ones that were in circulation when the Three Faced God destroyed the Godscar. Magic items are extremely rare and coveted, and the cost to purchase even a basic one is more than most peasants make in their lifetime.
Magic is feared by most commonfolk, not only because it is all but a mysterious unknown source of power, but because creatures that can cast magic typically earn the power by making a dark pact with a demon or devil, or are a demon or devil themselves. Anybody that can cast magic is usually exiled from their town or community, if not outright killed. Most people will never see magic their entire life.
