Sir Roberts

Sir Roberts is perhaps the most well known knight in the country, believed to be born sometime around 990-1000 1e, and died some time in the 1050’s 1e. Sir Roberts was a dragon knight, with his loyal companion Iroh, a steel dragon. He wielded the mythical sword Emberwing

Sir Roberts greatest achievement was defeating Eldrax in combat, the most fearsome dragon in the country. He was an already established dragon rider for House Vallos, but this solidified his status as one of the greatest knights of all time, for children to look up to for thousands of years.

Sir Roberts is most well known for his bravery, sword fighting skills, and his ability to overcome the odds, but most importantly his bond with his dragon. It is said that after Roberts died, Iroh never bonded with another dragon rider again. Iroh took Robert's sword Emberwing and melted a large chunk of iron around the tip of Emberwing, leaving it like a sword in a stone before Iroh retired to the mountains. He deposited the sword at the entrance of The Grand Spiral, the castle of Victor Vallos, where it remains to this day. Many adventurers have tried to pull the sword from the chunk of iron, but to no success. Since the destruction of The Spire, nobody knows the status of the sword, as nobody has been able to make it to Emberwing.

Robert's sword Emberwing is the most famous magical sword of all time. None know how Roberts came into possession of Emberwing, only that the sword refused to be wielded by anybody that wasn’t worthy, and Emberwing could only be wielded by the most worthy person on the planet. Roberts was born a peasant, so scholars are not quite sure how Roberts came into possession of it, since he had it before he signed up to be a dragon rider, long before he had any fame. Scholars have theorized that the sword may have traveled through time to deliver itself to Roberts, as the blade seeks out the most worthy wielders. This theory is supported by the fact that scholars who got to study Emberwing after Robert's death before the War of the Fallen Angel have noticed similarities in the work on Emberwing and Fang Forgehearts works. Fang Forgehearts last sword that he ever made, his magnum opus, was stolen before he could reveal it to the world. He died shortly after. Fang was born after the death of Roberts, so if it was the same sword, then Emberwing must have traveled through time to come into Robert's possession. This is, however, just a theory. Nobody knows for sure, and it is more likely than not a fable. History books probably exaggerated, and Roberts was probably gifted Emberwing for his deeds as a knight.

The legend of Roberts lives on, as a story told to children by their parents. Every child that wants to grow up and be a knight idolizes Roberts. The legend is so popular, the most common name for cats in Valtoria is Iroh, due to steel dragon’s feline-like movements and nature.
